K-Trax Sports, LLC was established in 2021 by track & field athlete and coach Katrina M. Smith, MBA, M.A. in Inglewood, CA, City of Champions.
Our Mission
K-Trax Sports, LLC strives to produce an atmosphere whereby athletes in track & field and the racing world at large can realize their athletic potential in a space unrestricted by the financial prohibitions of amateurism. In doing so, we aim to support the personal and professional athletic endeavors of our athletes while improving the positionality and marketability of track-based sports within the sports industry.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Conceptually, K-Trax began in 2011 as a response to the historical negative effects of amateurism on the athletic development, career progression, and profitability of track & field athletes who have aspirations of professionalism. For generations, many promising track & field athletes between ages 13 to 25 have become embittered and disenchanted with track due to financial restrictions imposed on the sport by the systemic financial, ideological, and philosophical paradox of amateurism. In simplest terms, if amateurism promotes “love of sport” then coaches, organizations, and institutions need only to “make the kids happy” rather than work to invest in the professional development of the athlete and the financial growth of sport. Subsequently, lack of adequate investment has left athletes to be paired with incompetent, unprofessional, underperforming coaches who have generationally impaired the athlete’s ability to advance their track & field careers. Many stakeholders have tried to modify amateurism with the ideals of professionalism, but amateurism's foundation is steadfast and deeply rooted in centuries of bureaucracy. We simply wish to provide athletes a BETTER alternative to achieve their vision.
By existing as a for-profit company, we aim to monetize track & field and bring the sport and its athlete’s visibility. We will do so by building facilities for training and competitions, producing competitive events, training and educating athletes and coaches on entrepreneurship, and publishing derived from research and development. Right now, we are working training and education.
The Future
Though our primary sport is track & field, we plan to expand our efforts to the big wide world of racing. We love tracks of all sorts! Much of our inspiration derives from the structure and success of NASCAR, Motocross, BMX, the X-Games, and Parkour. After all, they have tracks and we are track! Since the conception of K-Trax, the racing world has served as a benchmark for marketing, for-profit business models, event production, organizational development, and strategic planning due in part to their compatibility with track & field. It’s only fitting that we as a track company broaden our scope to the racing world to include track-based sports.
Company Policy Regarding COVID – It is our policy that athletes are vaccinated, provide proof of vaccination, and stay updated on their COVID vaccinations. We want to keep our athletes healthy and safe and their progress protected from the impairments of COVID. Please wear a mask to each session. Wash your hands.
